How it holds up in use
We did not run our own drop or leak tests; this section reports what the maker and the listing state, and where they conflict.
Build. Nalgene describes continuous, straight-shouldered threads and a cap with the seal ring molded in, with no separate liner to fall out, which is its explanation for the leakproof claim [1][3]. The loop top keeps the cap attached to the bottle.
Material, and a small mismatch. The Amazon listing describes the bottle as Eastman Tritan copolyester. Nalgene's own product page now says the Wide Mouth is made from Tritan Renew, and its FAQ says it uses Tritan Renew for the majority of its bottles [1][2]. A bottle bought from a third-party seller could be from either production period; both are Tritan plastic.
Cleaning, and a second mismatch. The listing's feature bullets say "dishwasher safe," while its product-care field says "Hand Wash Only." Nalgene's FAQ settles it: all its bottles are dishwasher safe, top rack, away from the heating element [2]. The listing also claims the bottle fits a standard bike bottle cage; Nalgene's page does not say so, and at 3.5 inches across we could not confirm it.
Warranty. Nalgene's FAQ describes a Lifetime Guarantee covering functional damage such as cracks, breaks or broken components from regular, intended use. It excludes cosmetic wear such as scratches or worn prints, and claims are reviewed by the company [2].
This is a single-wall plastic bottle with no insulation. If you want water that stays cold through a hot afternoon, an insulated bottle such as the Hydro Flask 32 oz Wide Mouth does that, at more than twice the weight and nearly three times the price on the day we checked.
Game plan: using it in a session
A simple routine for carrying one bottle through the day; a sequence, not a promise.
Fill it in the morning
A full bottle is about a liter. Use the side markings to see how much you drink by midday.
Bring it to the session
For a typical hour of exercise, plain water is usually enough. Drink through the day, and avoid drinking more than you lose; the sweat-and-sodium explainer covers why.
Mix in it if you like
The wide mouth takes a scoop of powder or a tablet easily. Rinse it soon after if you put anything but water in it.
Wash and dry with the cap off
Top rack of the dishwasher or by hand, then let it air-dry with the cap removed, as Nalgene's FAQ suggests.

- Anyone who wants drinks to stay cold or hot for hours; look at an insulated steel bottle.
- Anyone who drinks mostly while running or riding; a squeeze bottle or a narrow-mouth bottle may suit you better.
